The advantages of hiring a certified contractor or an accredited company for your energy efficiency and renewable energy projects are many. A certified installer must comply with specific standards and pass rigorous exams to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise in solar energy systems. Accredited companies, such as those recognized by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) or the Building Performance Institute (BPI), commit to high-quality installation standards and best practices for customer satisfaction.
It can be challenging to find a qualified contractor for your project, but it's essential to verify that they are certified and accredited. NYSERDA offers a searchable list of residential and renewable companies by county to help you make an informed decision. When you choose a certified and accredited contractor or company, you can trust that you're receiving professional, high-quality work that meets nationally-recognized standards and practices.
A game-changing piece of legislation that is set to revolutionize the way we tackle the climate crisis, strengthen energy security and provide affordable clean energy for New York. This landmark law will not only create new jobs for American workers, but also lower energy costs for households and businesses - paving the way for a sustainable and healthy future for generations to come. With this legislation, the benefits will be felt by communities throughout New York. Residents can now benefit from tax credits that cover significant costs associated with installing solar panels and battery storage systems, as well as making home improvements that reduce energy leakage or upgrading heating and cooling equipment. These tax credits have no income limits, making them accessible to all. In fact, projections suggest that over 220,000 households in New York will take advantage of these credits and install rooftop solar panels.

NYSERDA stands for the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. It is a public benefit corporation that was established in 1975 by the New York State Legislature. NYSERDA's primary goal is to help New York State achieve a cleaner, more resilient, and affordable energy system. They do this by funding research and development projects, offering technical support and assistance, and providing financial incentives to individuals, businesses, and institutions that invest in clean energy technologies.
Solar net metering is a billing arrangement that allows homeowners or businesses with solar panels to receive credit for excess electricity generated by their solar panels and sent back to the grid. Under this arrangement, the excess energy generated by the solar panels is automatically fed into the grid and credited to the homeowner or business owner's electric bill. This means that when the solar panels generate more electricity than is needed, the excess energy is sold back to the utility company, resulting in a credit on the owner's electric bill. This credit can then be used to offset the cost of electricity used from the grid during times when the solar panels are not generating enough energy to meet the owner's needs. Overall, solar net metering is a way for solar panel owners to save money by generating their own electricity and offsetting the cost of electricity from the grid.
